Cyclo What?
Cyclocross (si-klo-kross).- This is a bicycle race that is contested on a short loop of varying terrain. The course consist of a mixture of pavement, grass, dirt, rolling hills and several sections of "barriers" where the riders must dismount and carry the bike while running. Barriers are small hurdles 16 inches high and usually come in sets of 3 spaced about 12 feet apart.
The race duration is based on time. Depending on the category level the race could last from 30 minutes to an hour. Because of the short lap times of around 4 minutes these races are great for spectators to watch.
Anyone is eligible to compete.
